Deep Tissue Massage

Learn about deep tissue massage and what to expect during the session.

What is deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage is a specialized form of massage therapy that focuses on the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues. Unlike a regular or Swedish massage, which primarily aims to relax the body, deep tissue massage is more focused on treating muscle pain and stiffness by applying firm pressure and slow strokes.

What to expect?

Your massage therapist will discuss your specific problem areas before the session. Deep tissue massage can involve your entire body or focus on specific regions that need attention.

You’ll lie on your back or stomach under a sheet. Depending on the area being worked on, you’ll undress partially or fully. The therapist will ensure the area they’re treating is exposed.

To prepare your muscles, the therapist will start with lighter touch and warming strokes. This helps relax the tissues and prepares them for deeper work.

Once your muscles are warmed up, the therapist will apply deep kneading and slow strokes. They’ll use varying amounts of intense pressure to target specific muscle groups. The goal is to break up scar tissue, reduce tension, and improve mobility.

Throughout the session, communicate with your therapist. If the pressure feels too intense or uncomfortable, let them know.

After the massage, it’s normal to have some lingering soreness for a few days. Use a heating pad or cold pack wrapped in a towel to relieve soreness. Hydrate well after the massage to support the healing process.

Remember, deep tissue massage can be intense, but it’s a powerful tool for addressing muscle issues and promoting overall well-being!

Deep tissue massage uses firm pressure and may not be safe for everyone. Speak to your doctor before having a session if you have any health concerns.

What is the benefit?

Deep tissue massage offers both physical and psychological benefits. Unlike other massage techniques that focus on relaxation, deep tissue massage helps treat muscle pain and improve stiffness. It effectively eases chronic pain, including back pain, neck pain, and headaches. It targets specific areas of discomfort.

By breaking up scar tissue and releasing muscle tension, deep tissue massage enhances joint flexibility and overall mobility. Although it’s focused on pain relief, deep tissue massage still promotes relaxation and mental well-being.

Athletes benefit from deep tissue massage to prevent injuries and aid recovery.
